Here in Dallas, Texas we are lucky enough to have full totality with the upcoming solar eclipse. We could, if we wanted to, experience this once-in-a-lifetime event in our backyard. We are choosing to walk over to the Coppell festivities. Since we will not see this phenomenon again, we want to make sure we are prepared and practiced to capture this event.
First and foremost is SAFETY. Looking at the sun can blind you and destroy your camera. Make sure you have the proper glasses for your eyes and filters for your camera, including your phone. Only during the three minutes of totality can you view the sun without protection.
Here I am setting up the camera and testing different exposures to see what I like best. I am also testing out a new geared tripod head for tracking the sun. Notice the very sophisticated sun shade I employed so I cam more easily see the screen on the back of the camera. My screen folds out so I don't have to contort myself to view it.
If you come to Andy Brown Park, and can find us in the crowd, Kim and I would be delighted to talk with you. I think Kim is making us matching commemorative shirts for the occasion. My sister and her husband are joining us from Tallahassee, Florida.
